If you are interested in adding on a trip to Ireland when holidaying in Wales I would recommend looking at taking the ferry across the Iris Sea to Rosslare from Fishgard or Pembrook. It’s a simple enough crossing and only takes 4 hours. There are ferries to Wales and back most days and the prices are often lower than you think especially for foot passengers looking for daytrips.
Rosslare itself is a small seaside town in County Wexford, Ireland and has been a fantastic place for tourists to visit when coming to the emerald isle for over 90 years now . Rosslare is know the sunniest spot in Ireland with a massive 320 hours more sunshine every year than the average place in Ireland. With its huge sandy Blue Flag beach at its center it’s the perfect place for families and golfers looking for the ideal stop off in Ireland. The town has many great hotels and some excellent local restaurants.
If you are getting on the Rosslare to Fishguard ferry make sure you pop into the Royal Oak pub for a pint. It is the site of the signing of surrender following the infamous Battle of Fishguard in 1797, reported to be the last time a foreign army landed in Britain. A large contingent of 1,400 French soldiers landed near Fishguard with battle in their hearts but surrendered just two days later.
Pembroke Dock is a small town in Pembrokeshire in the south-west of Wales on the River Cleddau. Originally established as al fishing village the town was greatly expanded following the construction of the Docks and is easily accessible if you are travelling in Wales
